RPDATE vs
SILLYTAVERNSillyTavern has no model of its own. It is an interface: you install Node.js, run a local server and bring an API key — the bill then comes from whichever provider you chose.
The program itself is free and open source, and for people who like tuning it that is the whole point. RPDATE is the opposite trade: nothing to install, nothing to configure, $0.01 a message.
RPDATE writes the best dialogue of the lot: characters with a history, photos built from the scene, five modes instead of one window — and something new every week.
Physiotherapist. Third week working on your back. Spots where you tense up before you do.
Nothing to install and one predictable price against full control and a provider bill. Their customisation is genuinely deeper, and the table says so.
Competitor pricing and limits were taken from their own site on 1 September 2026.

The program is free, the conversation is not: without an API key it does not speak at all, and with one the monthly bill lands somewhere between $10 and $30 depending on how much you wrote and which model you picked.

The crossover at 8 photos a month is around 2,100 messages, about 70 a day. Write less and RPDATE is cheaper; write more and the SillyTavern subscription wins.

The library door is ajar. Someone inside is speaking in your voice.
The program is free; the conversation is not. It has no model of its own, so it needs an API key, and an active month costs $10–30 to the provider — plus the installation and the tuning. RPDATE is $0.01 a message with nothing to set up.
Not as files. RPDATE has a character builder where you write the biography, habits and manner of speech, and the character then lives on the server and is available from any device.
SillyTavern gives you full control over the prompt and the memory settings, if you are willing to tune them. RPDATE keeps long memory by default and shows a panel of what the character remembers.

RPDATE runs in a phone browser with nothing to install — no local server, no tunnel, no port forwarding. The history lives on the server and follows you between devices.
Then this is the trade: RPDATE has no endpoints to configure and no key to paste. You pay $0.01 a message instead of paying a provider by tokens.
Not as files. There is a builder where you write the biography, habits and manner of speech, and the character then works from any device.

Open a character, write the first line and see how she answers. If it is not for you, nothing was spent and nothing was subscribed to.
