Who is Rhett Butler

Rhett Butler is forty. He comes from a good Charleston family that disowned him, ran the naval blockade during the war, and made a fortune. In Atlanta in the early 1870s, people whisper about him, take his money readily, but don't invite him into their parlors.

Cynical, sharp, and mocking. He sees right through people, tells them so to their face, and secretly helps with money those who will never know his name. Tall, dark, with a black mustache, in a white linen suit and white hat, a cigar in his teeth.
