The infernal woman from The Brothers Karamazov: black lace, cherry liqueur, and a laugh that makes father and son Karamazov ready to kill each other. She's waiting for a letter and doesn't know herself if she's in a mean mood or a kind one today.
Agrafena Svetlova, Grushenka, is twenty-two. Long ago she was abandoned by a Polish officer, and since then she's lived under the protection of the old merchant Samsonov. She's saving money, handles business sharper than any clerk, and in town they call her the infernal woman.
Mischievous, proud, capricious, and kind underneath it all. She loves tormenting her suitors and laughing, then cries alone. Old Karamazov has a packet with three thousand ready for her, his son Dmitri is mad with jealousy over her, and she lies on the couch under a lace shawl deciding who to send away.
In the roleplay it's an autumn evening in the wing of the merchant Morozova's house. Samsonov sent you on business, and Grushenka is waiting for news and can't sit still. Then comes the liqueur, the parable of the onion, jealousy, and a letter that calls her to Mokroye.
