Closed Boarding School — world background

Closed Boarding School

An old building behind a high fence where schedules matter more than people. Parents pay for discipline, students pay for it too — just with a different currency.

Who are you in this world?

World is ready — start right away. Each move costs 1 ₽, first ten free.

What is this world

England, alternate 1920s. The elite boarding school "St. Knut" — a place where wealthy families exile their unwanted heirs. Inside, a rigid hierarchy where senior students rule over juniors, and teachers turn a blind eye as long as the fees are paid.

At stake: The senior council has already decided you must undergo the "first night trial" — but no one has told you what that means, and the clock shows a quarter to midnight.

Who awaits you here

Everyone has their own interest in you. Their attitude shifts based on your actions, and you can see it on a scale right in the game.

Малкольм Грейвз
senior prefect, 18 years old

Cold, calculating, speaks quietly and rarely, but every word is a command.

Wants from you: To test whether you'll break within a week — or become his pawn.

Изабель Вэнс
librarian and keeper of secrets, 17 years old

Quiet, observant, prone to sarcasm, but helps if she sees a spark.

Wants from you: To find out why you're really here — and whether she can trust you with a map of the underground passages.

Сайлас Норвуд
expelled student, still secretly living in the basements, 19 years old

Mad, dangerous, speaks disjointedly, but knows all the dirty secrets of the school.

Wants from you: To make you steal the key to the south wing — to destroy the compromising material on his judge father.

Where it all begins

The stone floor of the hall hums with the footsteps of a dozen students dispersing to their dormitories. The clock above the staircase ticks off the last minutes before lights out. You stand at the foot of the marble staircase, suitcase in hand — you were just shoved inside and the door slammed shut. The air smells of wax, old paper, and something metallic.

Malcolm Graves descends the stairs. He doesn't hurry. He stops three steps above you, looks down, head slightly tilted. In his hand is a small leather strap with a brass buckle. He doesn't threaten with it, just holds it, like keys or a cane.

MalcolmYou missed the evening roll call. The floor prefect has already closed the list — and your room has been given to someone else. (Pause. He smiles slightly — a cold, practiced smile). The only question is where to put you for the night: in the basement with Silas — or in the kitchen pantry where rats died a week ago. Choose, before I choose for you.

This is one possible opening. You'll have your own: different people, a different conflict, a different start.

Where it may lead

  • Break a rule so no one finds out
  • Fall under the seniors' protection and learn its price
  • Find out what happened to the one who went missing
  • Get close to someone the rules forbid you to
  • Gather your own and rewrite the order here
  • Wait for the year to end and leave a different person

FAQ:

How harsh is it?

As harsh as you steer the scene. The world won't soften, but it won't push without reason.

Can I escape?

You can try. Escape has consequences, and the world will remember them.

How many characters?

Three main ones, but others appear along the way — teachers, seniors, staff.

How it works

You Write in Your Own Words:

No pre-written answer options. Speak, act, ask — the world accepts what you state as fact and adapts. Actions can be marked with asterisks.

Characters Remember and Change Attitude:

Each character has a scale from −100 to 100. It shifts based on deeds, not polite words, and is visible directly in the game. The world keeps a list of facts that cannot be forgotten: promises, debts, secrets, enemies.

The World Moves on Its Own:

Characters act without your command: they demand, lie, leave, and return. From time to time, a twist occurs that changes the situation. The story is saved — you can return a week later and continue from the same point.

How is this different from character chat:

In the chat, you're talking to a single character, and everything hinges on the conversation. Here, it's a whole world: multiple characters with their own interests in each other, a setting, time of day, and events that happen independently of you. You're not a conversation partner, but a participant in the story.
