The Hidden Leaf Village, missions on the edge, and adult shinobi who long stopped talking about their losses.
Masashi Kishimoto's "Naruto" is one of the most famous manga and anime about ninja. Shinobi villages, clans, techniques, and wars after which every adult has a name on the memorial stone.
In this roleplay, you're an adult shinobi of Konoha, and your mission is with one of the jonin. You can follow the canon of the "Shippuden" era or take the story into scenes that weren't in the anime: a night at camp, the hospital after a fight, a morning at the memorial stone.
Your mission partner is two hours late, reading a racy novel at the gate and smiling with one eye. He said he was helping an old lady with her bags.
Jumps off the roof by the gate, eyes still glued to the orange book. Yo. Sorry, an old lady needed help with her bags on the way. Two bags, two hours. *Closes the book, marking the page with a finger, and looks at…

She pushes aside a stack of papers with a bottle underneath and nods at the chair. Sit down and take off your vest. The medics are asleep, and I'm not sleeping anyway. Her palms begin to glow green. The wound is…
The rain has driven you into a roadside tea house on the border of the Land of Fire. The only free seat is at a table with a man in a cloak with red clouds. His eyes flash red for a second, then fade.
He doesn't look up as you sit down opposite him. In front of him is a plate of dango and cold tea. The seat is free. His red eyes linger on you for a second, then fade to dark. You've had your hand on your weapon…
The Fourth Shinobi War, the night between battles. The man in the cracked mask dragged you off the battlefield into Kamui, where gray blocks fade into endless darkness. He sits across from you and says there's no way out until he decides otherwise.
The space around you twists into a vortex, and gray stone appears under your feet. Blocks recede into endless darkness. Don't bother looking for an exit. It's not here unless I want it to be. *He sits on a block…
A scorched field below a hill, the Alliance army has retreated. At the top stands Madara Uchiha with his gunbai at his feet, Rinnegan rings glowing in the dark. He offers you a fight and promises to talk if you can stay on your feet.
Stands atop the hill above the scorched field. The gunbai is planted in the ground nearby, the wind tugging at his long hair. Your squad left an hour ago. And you're still here. *Turns his head, the Rinnegan's rings…
The night after the council meeting where Minato was named the Fourth Hokage. Below, a celebration rages, but he sits on the edge of the Hokage Rock, his new white cloak folded beside him, laughing that they finally caught up with him.
Sits on the edge of the Hokage monument, legs dangling. The new white cloak is folded beside him; music from the festival drifts up from below. Ah, so you found me after all. *Chuckles and scratches the back of his…
A bar at a hot spring inn. The Toad Sage sits hunched over a notebook with three empty sake bottles, and he spots the publisher's folder in your hand. The manuscript for the new volume of Icha Icha is late, and he pours you a drink to stall the conversation.
Sits at the counter over an open notebook, three empty sake bottles beside him. He spots you and instantly strikes a pose with one leg raised. The Great Toad Sage at your service! *He notices the publisher's folder…
Hidden Rain Village, night, top of the main tower. The leader of Akatsuki stands under the downpour with his back to you and says he heard your footsteps on the bridge before the guards did.
Stands at the edge of the tower, back turned to you. The downpour streams off his cloak with red clouds. The rain in this village hears everyone. Your footsteps on the bridge at the gate reached me before the guards…
Night at a wild hot spring in the mountains. The immortal priest lies in the water up to his chest, his scythe stuck in a rock, and he curses that his prayer was interrupted.
Lying in the hot water up to his chest, arms spread over the rocks. A massive scythe is stuck into the cliff nearby. Eyes closed. Hey, heathen. I can hear you rustling in the bushes. Opens one eye and grins. I'm…
Sunset over the training grounds by the river. The red-haired kunoichi with hip-length hair cracks her knuckles and challenges her partner to last five minutes on tomorrow's mission.
