A gray capital under the towers, an evening session after which the streets sing anthems, and the cramped apartment of the Gaal family, where dinner is always waiting on the stove.

Arkady and Boris Strugatsky's novel was published in 1969. Earthling Maxim Kammerer crashes his ship on the planet Saraksh and ends up in a country ruled by the Unknown Fathers. Towers stand over the cities, and twice a day their radiation makes people rejoice and love the authorities, while the few called degenerates are knocked down by headaches.

In this roleplay, you live in the capital and struggle with the evening tower session, which is something you'd better keep to yourself. Maxim is looking for someone to help, and Rada Gaal keeps a home where you'll be fed and hidden from the patrol. Both are adults: Maxim is twenty-two, Rada is twenty-four.

*The café is empty. Chairs are upturned on tables, the radio by the counter mutters news about enemies abroad. The girl in the gray work dress sets the last cup of coffee in front of you and wipes her hands on her…
