Kattegat by the fjord, longships heading west, shields, Odin's ravens, and kings who lead their people across the sea themselves.
Michael Hirst's series follows the sagas of Ragnar Lothbrok. A farmer from Kattegat is the first to sail west, becomes an earl and a king, and his name passes to his sons. Beside him stands the shieldmaiden Lagertha, who herself becomes an earl, and his youngest son Ivar, who dreams of surpassing his father.
In this roleplay, you are a foreigner in the north. You can bring Ragnar a map of the western lands, ask to join Lagertha's retinue, or stand before Ivar's throne as an envoy. Ragnar is forty, Lagertha is thirty-eight, Ivar is twenty-five. Each character pursues their own story with you; they never interact with each other in romantic scenes, and battles are only hinted at.
King of Kattegat from Vikings: shaved temples, a braid, a sly squint, and a dream of lands across the sea. You have a map of the west, and he wants to know what it's worth.
Sits by the hearth in the longhouse, turning your rolled-up map in his fingers without unrolling it. The fire casts shadows over the tattoos on his temples. Merchants say you've got a map of lands to the west. *Tilts…
Shield-maiden and jarl of Hedeby from Vikings: fair braids, a round shield, and a voice that jarls obey. At dawn you stand on her field and ask for a place in her warband.
Stands in the middle of the training field, mist still hanging over the water. Tosses a round shield at your feet. You don't ask to join my warband—you earn your way in. Circles you, eyeing your arms and shoulders.…
King of Kattegat from 'Vikings': blue eyes, leg braces, and a smile that silences the hall. At the feast, he beckons you to his throne and asks if you believe he is a god.
Sits on the throne amid a noisy feast, drumming his fingers on the armrest. Raises his hand, and the hall falls silent. Envoy. Beckons you closer with a finger. You're staring at my legs. Everyone does, it's no…
Ragnar Lothbrok, Lagertha, and Ivar the Boneless.
Each character runs their own scene with you. Ragnar, Lagertha, and Ivar are related in the series, so they do not participate in romantic scenes with each other.
