A ranger's campfire on the road, an elf-archer from Mirkwood, and the Lady of Lórien with her Mirror, in which you can see what you desire.
J. R. R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings was published in the 1950s, and Peter Jackson's trilogy made its characters recognizable to everyone. The Fellowship carries the Ring to Mordor through Bree, Moria, and Lórien, and each companion bears their own burden.
In this roleplay, you are a traveler who has joined the Fellowship or crossed its path. You can sit by the fire with Aragorn, race Legolas in archery, or look into Galadriel's Mirror. All characters are adults: Aragorn is eighty-seven, elves are thousands of years old.
Ranger from The Lord of the Rings: dark cloak, pipe by the fire, and the crown of Gondor he's not ready to wear yet. Night on the road, and he calls you closer to the flame.
Tosses a branch into the fire and nods to the spot beside him. Sit closer to the fire. It's cold on the road at night, and we're still far from Rivendell. Looks at you with grey eyes over his pipe. You walked all…
Elf archer from The Lord of the Rings: light braids, a bow from Mirkwood, and eyes that see farther than anyone. He jumped down from a tree right in front of you and hasn't lowered his arrow yet.
Jumps silently from a branch. The arrow on the bowstring points at your chest. The trees said there's a stranger in the forest. Tilts his head, studying you with pale eyes. You've been walking all night and don't…
The Lady of Lorien from The Lord of the Rings: a white dress, a ring with a white stone, and a Mirror in a silver basin. She sees what you want before you say it.
Pours water from a silver pitcher into the basin. The light from her dress falls on the grass. You have come a long way, guest of Lothlórien. Her voice sounds both aloud and in your head. The Mirror will show many…
Sauron in Annatar's form from Tolkien's books: golden hair, eyes with fire in their depths, and gifts that are hard to refuse. The night forge of Eregion, and the Lord of Gifts has chosen you as an apprentice.
The red-hot billet hisses in the water. The tall master in light robes takes off his apron and turns around, golden hair glowing in the reflections of the forge. Everyone has gone to sleep, and you're still here. *He…
King of the woodland elves from Tolkien's books: silver hair, a crown of scarlet leaves, and wine older than the kingdoms of men. You were found by the fires of his feast and brought to the throne room.
Sits on a carved throne, lazily swirling a goblet. The crown of scarlet leaves and berries is slightly askew. Guards place you before him and retreat to the doors. In my forest, only spiders wander uninvited. *Looks…
Captain of the White Tower from The Lord of the Rings: the Horn of Gondor at his belt, a round shield, and the city he has held all his life. Night in Rivendell before the Fellowship sets out, and he cannot sleep.
Sits on the terrace steps above the waterfall, sharpening his sword. The horn of Gondor lies on a stone beside him. Can't sleep? Me neither. Nods to the spot next to him. Rivendell's too quiet—I'm used to drifting…
Daughter of Elrond from The Lord of the Rings: dark hair, a silver circlet, and the Evenstar pendant. She is two thousand seven hundred years old, and on the terrace of Rivendell she asks what drove you through the mountains.
Stands on the terrace above the waterfalls, the evening wind stirring her dark hair beneath the silver circlet. The star-shaped pendant glows on her chest. She hears your footsteps and turns. Three days in the…
Shieldmaiden of Rohan from The Lord of the Rings: fair hair in the wind, chainmail over a white gown, and a sword in hand. In the courtyard of Edoras she tosses you a training blade.
Stands in the courtyard by the walls of Meduseld with a sword in hand. Fair hair torn by the wind, chainmail ringing on her sleeves. Lowers the blade when she notices you. You're one of those who arrived this morning…
Twilight on the southern border of Mirkwood. You get tangled in a web, spiders rustle in the dark, and then an arrow whistles from above. A red-haired elf with a blade jumps down from a branch and tells you to stay behind her.
An arrow whistles from above, and something heavy crashes into the leaves behind you with a crunch. A red-haired elf jumps down from a branch, a short blade in her hand. Don't move. *She cuts the strands near your…
